Luxury vinyl plank is the floor that solved the water problem. Murfreesboro Flooring installs waterproof LVP across Murfreesboro and Middle Tennessee — the tough, low-maintenance floor a lot of families choose for kitchens, baths, basements, and anywhere kids and pets are hard on the surface. And like everything we lay, it’s installed over a properly prepped subfloor so it stays flat and solid for years.

What LVP is

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is a multi-layer synthetic floor built to look like real wood or stone while being fully waterproof. A photographic layer gives it a realistic look, a tough transparent wear layer resists scratches and scuffs, and a rigid core — often a stone-plastic composite (SPC) — gives it stability and a solid feel underfoot. Most LVP clicks together as a floating floor; some is glued down for high-traffic or large commercial spaces. It’s the same family of product you’ll find in a lot of our commercial flooring work, because it holds up.

Why homeowners choose LVP

  • Waterproof. This is the headline. LVP can handle spills, splashes, and damp rooms without warping, which is why it’s the go-to for kitchens, baths, laundry rooms, and basements.
  • Tough and pet-friendly. The wear layer stands up to dog nails, dropped dishes, and heavy furniture better than most surfaces — a real advantage in busy homes.
  • Low-maintenance. Sweep and damp-mop, and it’s done. No refinishing, no sealing, no fuss.
  • Comfortable and quiet. LVP is softer and warmer underfoot than tile or stone, and with the right underlayment it’s quiet to walk on.
  • Realistic looks. Modern LVP mimics hardwood and stone convincingly, so you get the look you want in rooms where real wood or stone wouldn’t survive.

Where LVP fits in a home

LVP is the answer for wet and high-traffic spaces — kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, mudrooms, basements, and busy entryways. Plenty of homeowners floor an entire home in LVP for consistency and peace of mind. That said, if you want real wood that can be refinished for decades, hardwood flooring is our flagship; if you’re after the wood look at the lowest cost for dry living areas, laminate is worth comparing; and for a premium statement in an entry or bath, look at marble and natural stone. We install all of them, so the advice is always about your home.

How an LVP installation works

LVP is forgiving, but it isn’t foolproof — a floating floor is only as flat as the subfloor beneath it, and even waterproof plank needs the right prep to perform.

  1. Free consultation

We look at the rooms and the subfloor, talk through waterproof needs and the look you want, and give you a free quote. We call back within a day.

  2. Subfloor prep & moisture testing

We level the subfloor and test for moisture. Even though the plank is waterproof, moisture trapped below or an uneven base will still cause problems — so we handle it. See subfloor prep and moisture remediation.

  3. Acclimation

The plank acclimates to your home’s temperature before installation, so it doesn’t expand or contract after it’s down.

  4. Installation with proper expansion gaps

Floating LVP is installed with the correct expansion gap at the walls; glue-down LVP is set for spaces that need it. Either way, it’s done to the manufacturer’s spec.

  5. Final walkthrough

We finish the trim and transitions and walk the floor with you before we call it done.

Done right the first time — waterproof isn’t worry-proof

“Waterproof” refers to the plank, not the room. If the subfloor is uneven or holding moisture, even the best LVP can telegraph dips, click, or trap problems underneath. We level, test, and acclimate on every job — because the prep is what turns a good product into a floor that lasts.

Typical LVP pricing in Middle Tennessee

Installed luxury vinyl plank in Middle Tennessee typically runs in the range of $2 to $10 per square foot, depending on the thickness and quality of the plank, whether it’s floated or glued, the condition of the subfloor, and the size of the space. That’s a typical range, not a quote for your home. A free consultation gets you an honest, specific figure — no pressure.

Frequently asked questions

Is LVP really waterproof?

The plank itself is waterproof, which means spills and damp rooms won’t warp it the way they can warp laminate or hardwood. That’s why it’s our top pick for kitchens, baths, and basements. Proper subfloor prep still matters so moisture doesn’t get trapped underneath.

LVP vs. laminate — which should I pick?

Choose LVP when waterproofing matters — kitchens, baths, basements, homes with pets. Choose laminate when you want a very budget-friendly wood look in dry living areas. We often install both in the same home and will help you decide room by room.

Is LVP good for homes with pets?

Yes — it’s one of the most pet-friendly floors we install. The wear layer resists scratches from nails, and the waterproof surface handles accidents and spills without staining or warping.

Can LVP go over an existing floor?

Sometimes, if the existing floor is flat, sound, and dry. But we always assess the subfloor first — skipping proper prep to save a step is how floating floors end up uneven or noisy. We’ll tell you honestly what your space needs.
